Five dollars from 5,000 people will buy a church

My name is John. I write books. I’m not a pastor or a professional fundraiser.

One could reasonably argue that I don’t know what I’m doing. This is known as winging it.

For marketing purposes, I created a Facebook page after my book The God Conclusion was published. Pastor Javed from the Face of God church in Pakistan contacted me through that page, and we developed a relationship over time. We now worship together over the internet. I started leading a Bible study that still meets every Saturday morning–we’re currently studying the Book of Revelation. I’ve even been asked to deliver few sermons to the church via Zoom calls. Whatever they have asked, I have felt compelled to do in service to this church as they endeavor to serve my God.

Now the Face of God church in Pakistan humbly seeks our help. We need to raise five dollars from 5,000 people in order to raise all the funds necessary to purchase their physical sanctuary in Pakistan. This church has grown exponentially in size and desperately needs to secure their house of worship. These people have their hearts on fire for God. They believe in the resurrection. They need a safe place to worship our Lord. A place they can permanently call home. They have been renting the same building, but now the owner has announced he is ready to sell. We need to raise the remaining funds with some sense of urgency.

Jesus fed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish. Throughout the Bible there are numbers of symbolic significance. The miracle of Jesus feeding the five thousand seems like an appropriate analogy to make, except this church doesn’t have five thousand members. Not yet, at least. We’re hoping to find five thousand benefactors. Technically now only 4,800 benefactors.

Five dollars is basically the price of a Big Mac sandwich. We can give this church the comfort and security of a permanent safe house of worship for a minimal sacrifice, if even five thousand people respond to this plea for help.

According to the Bible, if we ask, we will receive. So, we’re asking God to motivate you to donate five dollars. We also ask for your prayers. We ask that you share the link to our fundraiser with everyone you know. Whatever you are willing to do, we are grateful for your help.

We’ve already raised over $1,000. That money was given to the church to pay to the seller as earnest money for the purchase. We’re officially four percent of the way toward achieving our goal. Technically, now we only need to ask for five dollars from 4,800 people to meet our goal.

Please consider using this link to donate.

The same physical church building in the United States would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy–this church is a bargain at the price. Every penny donated to the church will go directly to the church, except ten percent of the proceeds will be given to GiveSendGo for sponsoring the fundraiser. Not one penny of this money will be spent for any reason except to support this church. This isn’t about The God Conclusion. It’s about helping the Face of God church in Pakistan.

I’ve never been to Pakistan in person. I’ve never met any members of this church in person. Yet I still feel like I know them well because I’ve (remotely) attended services and witnessed baptisms and other church celebrations over the course of several years now. These are Christians literally living behind enemy lines, because their government is openly hostile to the Christian religion. Christians in Pakistan have been murdered for their faith. What we take for granted, they simply cannot. They must worship caution. I’d love to share photos of the congregation celebrating worship services but due to safety concerns the risk isn’t worth the potential reward. God knows our need. God will answer our prayers.

But will you be one of God’s instruments?

God bless you and thank you for your time.
